mmm nigeriaHmmm! Have you ever wondered why mmm Nigeria, within its shortest entrance into Nigeria gained a significant trust among its users ?

This popularity enjoys by mmm Nigeria can be explained from the point of view that it came at a time when Nigerian economy almost crashed (economic recession) and beside many desperate Nigerians graduates see opportunity of earning themselves a living from mmm Nigeria program.

But this post will not be complete without a look at brief history of mmm Nigeria.

According to Wikipedia, MMM was established in 1989 by Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi, and Olga Melnikova. The name of the company was taken from the first letters of the three founders’ surnames. … MMM created its successful Ponzi scheme in 1994

MMM created its successful Ponzi scheme in 1994. The company started attracting money from private investors, promising annual returns of up to one thousand percent. It is unclear whether a Ponzi scheme was Mavrodi’s initial intention, inasmuch as such extravagant returns might have been possible during the Russian hyperinflation in such commerce as import-export.

MMM grew rapidly. In February 1994, the company reported dividends of 1,000%, and started an aggressive TV ad campaign. Since the shares were not quoted on any stock exchange and the company itself determined the share price, it maintained a steady price growth of thousands of percent annually, leading the public to believe its shares were a safe and profitable investment.  Read the whole of the story here.

In November 2015, MMM Nigeria website was launched, a website targeting the Nigerian audience, also claiming a “30% per month” return including other acquirable bonuses. The entity was self-described as a “mutual aid fund where ordinary people help each other.” 2.4 million people had signed up by late 2016, with the country’s unemployed as primary targets.

Since the inception of mmm Nigeria, a lot of both negative and positive publicity have trailed its activity. Negative publicity majorly from Government agency and Apex bank; and of course positive publicity from the teeming Nigerian unemployment youths and old people alike who have benefited a lot from the scheme.

According to the founder of mmm, the philosophy behind it is to establish  a “fair financial system“. A system where people help each other. Today you help and tomorrow you will be helped. That is the main principle of MMM Nigeria. Read more about the ideology of mmm

And at the moment, that ideology seems to work for the participants.

Wait, come to think of it . . .

Is MMM Nigeria a Ponzi Scheme as being portrayed by People?

Ponzi schemes are based on fraudulent investment management services.  Basically investors contribute money to the “portfolio manager” who promises them a high return, and then when those investors want their money back they are paid out with the incoming funds contributed by later investors. The person organizing this type of fraud is in charge of controlling the entire operation; they merely transfer funds from one client to another and forgo any real investment activities.

But on the other hand , MMM is not a bank, MMM does not collect your money, MMM is not an online business, HYIP, investment or MLM program. MMM is a community where people help each other. MMM gives you a technical platform which helps millions of participants worldwide to connect those who NEED help to those who are ready to PROVIDE help, for FREE. All transferred funds to another participant are your help  given by your own good will to another one, absolutely gratis.

Admittedly by the founder,  mmm Nigeria is a pyramid scheme and reward is awarded to referrer by MARVO. That is to encourage the more participant to benefit from the scheme.
